  • - Paid $3500 for Culligan salt system with full service.
  • - Nine months with no service; visits were promised.
  • - Autopay charged despite no service.
Updated by user Apr 14, 2026

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with partial refund. They serviced and refilled the unit, checked there were no open service charges and it is working again.

Original review updated Apr 14, 2026
I bought a $3500 salt system from Culligan of Danbury. Our well water is a little hard, and I wanted to make it softer because the mineral hardness affects my skin.

I signed up for their full service contract - automatic salt refills and any repairs were supposed to be covered. I have several homes and a lot to keep track of, so I always go for the full service agreements.
Nine months later, Culligan hadnever showed up, gave me the runaround when I call, and kept telling me my appointment is next week. Meanwhile, I was on autopay and they didn't hesitate to charge me.
They were a mess - clearly more focused on sales than service.
I ran out of salt in 2 months, so for 7 months the thing was been doing nothing. Do they ever call back?

Of course not.
After 2 months, and maybe 6 calls, someone FINALLY took ownership of the issue and figured out the problem. They improperly entered the payment codes and wound up billing me then reversing the charges. So it showd as never paid - so they say.
Eventually, after some pissed off conversations, they Finally ctually showed up and put in the salt. I tested my own water and the GPM is down to 0.59, pretty much what I asked for.

I will check it in a couple more weeks and hope they show up as scheduled to maintain it.
The product appears to work, and the water is fine.

Their billing and organization needs a serious upgrade. Danbury Culligan at LAST got it straightened out

Culligan - Unprofessional and rude, if you have hard water, don’t call these people

From the time I call till unit was installed went good but they didn't hook up to the refrigerator as stated in bill of sale, and was told there would call the me in a week or two to see how things were going,I never got a call or any instruction manual for equipment, so I had water tested and its softened water all right but the ppm 500 was over 1000 and the water before the softener was 800, has Culligan come and check equipment to make sure things were set up correctly. I got out of 3 times in a row and when they finally came out and was here less than 30 minutes and Im getting charged for it. Also was told the equipment is working very hard to produce better water quality but all its doing is driving my power consumption higher and also the salt that recommended its double the price than salt pellets.

Water pressure

AI Highlights
  • - Paid $5700; system indoors works but harms yard, sprinklers have low pressure, Ricardo damaged flowers, Kevin stopped responding.

Hello, i had the $5700 system installed maybe 3 weeks ago. Im retired so i was readily available during the install.

Two installers an older Hispanic, and a younger one to crawl the house. The sales Kevin assured me there will be no pressure issues. The very next day my neighbor told me about issues related to softwater and gardens. I then googled it to see if its true.

I found plenty of issues on this subject. Its harmful to plants, grass, gardens, so i called Kevin. He said upon his initial walk through he takes notes of customers surroundings and he noted two palm trees in the front which is why he did not mention softwater problems related to lawns etc. My gardens in the back..

and pretty serious about gardens. The common fix is to add separate line of hard water. He only mentions this after install. PLUS water pressure is so low it wont activate sprinklers.

He said his boss approved $200 fix for sprinklers. Then technician came and wanted to charge $560. I refused. I called Kevin he sent Ricardo over, and this guy was original installer.

He said that his charge was $200 to run line. Better than the first however, kevin said $200 off the first guys quote of $560. Bottom line, i was home and installer Ricardo destroyed a section of wifes flowers, and never apologized. But maybe hed hope we would not notice.

The pressure problem is real affecting sprinklers and probably flows at .04 gpm at kitchen. I now water front and back my hand. Kevin is angry and stopped responding, because i refused to accept the additional added cost. No one ever mentioned anything about how it affects garden.

And i went out of my way to make clear with installrr Ricardo Not to even stop by if he doesnt know the job to be covered. Its is not my fault i dont speak mexican or spanish. This Ricardo came over thinking he was only there to collect $200 for adding additional line of hard water to my garden. And it was supposed to be restoring water pressure to activave my sprinklers and add soft water line to the front to wash cars..

My wife speaks their language and thinks Ricardo was being a *** because of a Trump flag i have in the front yard. Ricardo was rude, destroyed 3 flowers plants, made me explain myselfvto him about my expectations i spoke with Kevin about, making me feel like i was tryingbto scam him. Im really so sadden to learn the first organization of home improvements i chose was Culligan. The biggest name, and twice the expense i expected.

But i had confidence id get what i paid for.. shocked.. so next is Better business to only give bad review because their not accredited. THEN yelp, already got instagram and Tik tok.

Yes i will make it known because Ricardos lack of respect and Kevins decision to drop the ball. Yes i paid the $5700 in full.. the system itself works well in the house but outside its killing my yards..

my complaint started the folliwing day of install. ANAHEIM CA OFFICE

Original review Jun 24, 2025
I signed up for home water delivery with three 5-gallon bottles of water. I never received my order, yet I was charged.

I have called the number listed under the Culligan website. To my understanding, this is just a call center according to the associate of Culligan Water in Fairborn, Ohio. The one person that called me initially when I set up my online account was Rebecca. I was at work.

She did not leave a callback number.

The website phone number says there is a high call volume, 7 days a week, and then routes you to voicemail, and you never get a return call. I am highly disappointed; I will be taking my service elsewhere.

Original review Sep 18, 2025
My mother in law bought a water filtration system from a salesman named Chris from the Apalachicola Fl Culligan office. He never told her about finance charges only to say she wouldn't have to pay any interest for a year.

This comapny is only putting $30 a month on the principle. She is 84 years old and only draws $900 a month. She has been trying for a month to find someone to talk to about taking it back. She has gotten the runaround at every turn.

At this point she just wants it gone because after paying her other bills she has nothing left.

At the rate Aqua is putting only $30 on the principle she will be long gone before it's ever paid off.
I would very much appreciate if someone would call her and try to help her. She has made herself sick over this whole mess thanks to this salesman not explaining everything to her.

User's recommendation: Don't use Aqua Finance Co.

Poor customer service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I am a 30 year customer and when this system dies I will be going elsewhere. Had the system Flushed a year ago and my water hasnt been right.

After our system stopped working for another reason, they found the filter wasnt functioning as when they flushed the system they never opened it up.This was their fault! The tech fixed it, tested the water and said he would retest in a couple of weeks. I called today to get on their schedule and the service man was annoyed we were getting the water retested. It was their tech that recommended it!

Their customer service stinks!!! And the systems they sell arent what they used to be.

Customer service sucks

AI Highlights
  • - Techs who service my system are great.
  • - A staffer named Kristy/Christy was short with me.
  • - Salt deliveries are quarterly; extra salt costs more.

The technicians who come to my house when I need my system serviced are awesome. It's just a pain contacting customer service to get someone out here.

Every single time I get a woman named Kristy or Christy however she spells it, and she's short with me and snotty. I don't appreciate that. I'm calling because I have questions or concerns, and she acts likes I'm bothering her. I called and asked if I could my salt delivered a week early because I was running low.

She got a snotty tone with me and said You can't just call whenever you need salt. Salt deliveries are every 3 months, that means quarterly so if YOU'RE going to need more salt then YOU have to pay extra for it.

User's recommendation: Beware: Customer Service is not friendly at all at least in my area.

Sent from my iPhone. My name is Lydia Imani.

21917 Jeffrey Sauk Village, Illinois.

773-870-****.

I am a senior citizen.

I need help because your organization will not call me, email me or resolve or admit that I am the owner of the water softener in my home.

I have contacted you at least ten times or more regarding account 617306 to discontinue my service.

I initiated my first call to you on 10-5-24.

I requested to disconnect my service and to remove my debit card from your file.

However, you continue to bill me even though I own this equipment. Why haven't you contacted me with a resolution since October?

I provided you the necessary information showing that I was the owner of the water softener equipment in my home.

Still, you continue to bill me.

You are ignoring me, this is insane.

You have no contract indicating you own the equipment because when I moved in 10 years ago, I never signed a contract with you.

I established service with you through a phone call I made to you.

Why are you trying to steal this equipment from my home? More importantly, I have paid you as a renter for 10 years because your company failed to recognize me as an owner at the initial point of contract.

I thought that was your process.

I understand you are a monopoly. Am I receiving this treatment because I am a senior, black woman and you feel you can get away with it?

Inquiring minds want to know.

The equipment is old and ugly, but it's the principle of it all.

I feel so disappointed with your company and the fact that you refuse to contact me with a resolution.

I feel so disappointed that I provided you the information you requested proving I am the owner and yet, you ignore me and your company refuses to contact me with a resolution.

I feel so disrespected by you, even though I provided you with proof of ownership and told you I never signed a contract with you, explaining why you don't have a contract.

Culligan, you don't own this equipment.

You don't.

With 41 years of working in Corporate America, all I can say is your customer service is substandard. I have never seen or experienced anything like this before.

Lydia Imani.

I believe I am not the only one they have treated this way. We need to go to the source Culligan International, Culligan Corporate and BDT Capital Partners, LLC

Original review Jan 10, 2025
Please know that I disagree with the amount. Because you have bullied me and posed a danger to me and my home, I have been advised by authorities to immediately end this contract for safety reasons.

This will eliminate future contact with you. I feel threatened and endangered by you. It is making me anxious, and my blood pressure is going up to stroke level again. Please send me a payment in full with the list of the equipment I paid for and the amount I was charged for each one.

I also need any warranties that may exist for any of the equipment. I was overcharged because there are at least three monthly payments of $248 (rounded) that are not included. I have the receipts for 46 payments before today's payment. I am not being credited for my deposit of $998.

You had an unlicensed person install the equipment. We were forced to move out of the house for weeks because we could not use the water after you installed your system. You charged me for my own equipment and reimbursed me only in part. You charged me a monthly rental fee for equipment that belonged to me.

I was harassed and discriminated against repeatedly, which caused me undue stress and a visit to the hospital. You failed at least two salt deliveries per our agreement. When I asked to have them delivered, you argued with me and spoke to me condescendingly using racial epithets. You consistently charged me late fees when I was not late.

You charged me for filters which were supposed to be supplied by you as part of the agreement. On the last delivery, you claimed I was delinquent in payment, which I was not, and you spoke to me condescendingly, harassed me about nonpayment when no payment was due at that time, and refused to deliver the salt. You bullied me and threatened to break into my house with the police. You forged my husband's name on a contract and lied on the BBB complaint that he signed the agreement when he did not.

For this reason, when you are found guilty, as fraud is criminal and it brings a separate set of criminal charges to include imprisonment, you are not to be trusted. You consistently lied to me and the BBB in writing. When you forged his name on the contract, it means you have illegally signed his name on a legal document without his permission, essentially creating a false representation of your agreement to the contract terms, which is considered a criminal act known as 'signature forgery' and renders the contract void in most jurisdictions. We will take up all of this through complaints we will file.

Please do not reach out to me for any reason other than in writing the conclusion of this contract and all equipment listed and paid in full. I paid you the amount of your demand $1350.23.

I will file the necessary complaints with the courts for reimbursements of overpayment. Unfortunately, it is not safe for me to continue discussions with you after posting this email.

Paid for a service that created even more limescale in our home

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Expensive softener promised 0% limescale, but lime persists after 2 years.
  • - Repeated service visits blamed wrong settings and slow communication.

Avoid at all costs. We had the most expensive water softener installed, as recommended for our house when we rang.

We were told we would have 0% limescale. We've had this installed for nearly 2 years. We had it installed as soon as we moved into our brand new house. Our whole house is destroyed by lime.

We have gone through so many kettles etc. The lime will not come off the shower doors. We had a new unit installed which we were told was even better. Prior to this, we've had many call outs, each time we were told the last person had the settings wrong.

Then when we had the unit replaced, we were told that it was installed incorrectly in the first place, the pipe was in the wrong place! Their excuse was that it was a faulty unit anyway! I have wasted so much time and money trying to phone, waiting for callbacks which I never received, and emails being ignored. After having the new unit replaced, the limescale remained.

Each time we were told to wait around 6-8 weeks to notice a difference. There was never any difference. We had another guy out and he said the unit is clearly not working as there's lime everywhere. We had to wait four weeks to get someone out to take a water sample.

He did this and we were told we'd have the results the next day. 2 weeks later and many calls and emails in between this and nothing, no responses. I rang again to be told that the water has not been tested yet and has to be sent off to be tested and hasn't been tested yet because the woman who tests is off sick.

So there's one person who tests the water and I will be waiting another 2 weeks! It's absolutely outrageous, our whole experience has been nothing but hassle and stress and an absolute waste of money!

Billing complaint

My delivery driver did not come out in October or and or he did not come out in December 2 times I was not had. I did not have service.

I fell behind because I was having issues with them cutting in my account for October. My driver was fired and no one else came out to replace him in December when I called. They were still working on the October issue and I was refusing to make a payment until they got the account taken care of billing or whatever they credited one month to my account I made a payment of 172 or $73.

My account shouldve been zeroed out by then and now theyre charging me for the December payment and I did not have service in December. I sent them a picture of the sticker on my unit that showed November 8 And so I need to get this resolved.
